I've seen some posts here that are not very pleasant to look at. I'm talking about funnel quoting where a forum member uses the "Quote" function to reply to a certain post. As you know, this will place the original message in a box to indicate that it's the one being replied to. The problem with this is that once more than one member uses this function without as much as deleting the unnecessary messages in the original posts, there's a very huge possibility of ugliness in the post which can be seen as lots of messages nested in boxes such as this:

Quote:
Quote:
blah
blah
blah
blah
blah
blahblah
Quote:
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Quote:
blah
blah
blah
blah
blah
blahblah
Quote:
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Quote:
blah
blah
blah
blah
blah
blahblah
Quote:
blah
blah
blah
blah
blah
blahblah

Maybe others will say that they do not know how to avoid having these as they have no idea in editing the BBCode used in this forum. So here's a simple tutorial to help you:

When you hit the "Quote" button, this will bring you to the reply page. If the message has already been replied to, the original messages will be there. It might look something like this:

Code:
[/quote]

that's great etc etc etc [/quote]

Now, your only intention is probably just to quote the last reply. In this case there are already 2 messages nested in the box. [ quote=1stUsername] is the latest reply while [ quote=2ndUsername] is the first one. To quote the last reply, you'll delete the unnecessary first reply (which is 2ndUsername).

In BBCode, the codes work in pairs. One to open and the other to close as you can see here:
Code:
[quote]message here[/quote]

The [quote ] is there to say that "this is the start of the quote" and the [ /quote] is there to say that "this is the end of the quote".

Note: the same applies with the other codes you can see here such as bold, italic, underline, code, list, image, url and font properties.

To delete the unnecessary message included in the nest, highlight the [ quote=2ndUsername] message here... until the [ /quote]. If you did it correctly, the message box will now look something like this:

Code:
[quote=1stUsername]
that's great etc etc etc [/quote]

Doesn't that look neat? Now you can type your reply after the quoted message.

Before you press the submit button, you might want to preview it first, espcially if you have never done this before. This is just to avoid wacky messages from appearing in the forum due to improperly edited BBCodes. For any questions, clarifications, comments, etc. you can post them here. If you cannot understand anything I just discussed, you can request a Tagalog version and I will try my best to translate it.

I hope everyone will pay attention to this because repeated non-conformity to this will also be a ground for account suspension. Don't say you did not get the warning. Thank you.

Another problem with using the "Quote" function is when a poster wants to quote another user but the original message is one mile long and the poster only wants to quote part of the original message. This becomes a problem because of the unnecessary consumption of space as the unrelated messages are also included in the quote box. For example:

Original message:

Code:
I had a very wonderful day. I went to this place and that place and did this. Then I did that. I also met a lot of wonderful people.

By the way, User1, your dog looks nice in the picture

If the poster only wants to reply to the second paragraph, he/she should delete the rest of the message so that everything in the quoted message are the only ones related to his reply. So the message will now look like this:

Code:
[quote=OriginalPoster]By the way, User1, your dog looks nice in the picture[/quote]

Why, thank you OriginalPoster. The dog is a poodle and I got it for my birthday last year.

Notice that the first paragraph from the original post is now deleted since it is not related to the reply.

If you don't understand this one, you may post your questions here.
